How it started

From a windowless office to a one-way ticket

I’m Emily, a Canadian solo female traveller, and a marketer and graphic designer by trade.

At 26, I couldn’t shake the constant pull to go see the world. I was working an office job in a building with no windows, often feeling like I was living stationary in a world that moved on around me.

I took a leap and quit my job, trading no windows for the world. I booked a one-way ticket, sold all my belongings, and left with no fixed plan, just a feeling that needed to be followed.

How it’s going

A softer itinerary to life

What started as a trip slowly became a way of living.

I move through the world with my camera in tow, drawn to connection wherever I go. Whether I’m sitting with locals, hiking through new landscapes or sharing a meal with strangers who become friends, I’m always interested in experiencing places through the people, food, culture and everyday life within them.

Travel has shown me how much bigger and more welcoming the world is than we’re often taught to believe. It’s taught me to stop waiting for the right time or the right person.

The Soft Atlas exists to share what I find along the way, and hopefully to show you that the world is yours too.
